Plan For Scheduling Your Surgery

Booking a surgery date involves several steps, and the process can vary depending on the type of surgery and your specific circumstances. Here are some general steps to help guide you through the process:

Exchanging Information & Answering Your Inquiries

Email correspondence is the most efficient way to transmit information while documenting requests or inquiries. Once we understand your concerns regarding each surgery, procedure, or treatment, we will provide detailed information. The WIH International Hospital CRM Team will address non-medical queries, while our surgeons will respond directly to medical ones.

On first contact, you will be asked to complete the “Patient Health Information Form” to learn about your health status. It would be best never to conceal any underlying medical condition(s) that could negatively impact the surgical procedure(s) or your treatment or cause postoperative complications. You are responsible for giving honest and correct information only in the Patient Health Information Form to the best of your knowledge.

If you are under 20 (on the agreed surgery date), you must be accompanied by a parent or provide parental consent for the surgery in advance.

For certain surgeries or underlying medical conditions, we may require medical clearance or a referral letter from your specialist to proceed with the surgery.

In cases of known HIV infection, your eligibility for surgery will be determined based on factors such as CD4 count, viral load, current antiviral medication, and other tests required by the surgeon.

Sending Photos for Evaluation

If you plan to send your photos to get our surgeon’s opinions and recommendations for appropriate procedures, please be advised that the attached files per e-mail must not exceed 25 MB.

The three standard views typically required for face or body surgery are front, semi-45 degrees, and side views for both the right and left sides.

The additional base view is required for nose surgery.
The scalp’s additional top and back views are required for hair transplantation surgery.

We offer online consultations with an associated doctor’s fee for international patients. You can check for available dates and schedule an online consultation through our CRM team.

Pay deposit to reserve the surgery date

You must provide the month you intend to come for the surgery or treatment you plan to book. WIH will suggest a date or a few dates for you, and you will need to confirm the date that works best for you.

Once the date has been mutually agreed upon, the non-refundable 20% deposit calculated from the total surgery or treatment fee must be paid within ten days. You have to sign the payment condition form and send it to us with the proof of payment.

If we do not get the proof of payment, we may offer the proposed surgery date to others. This implies that when you contact us again or are ready to pay the required deposit, we may need to find another date for you.

Please email the lab reports, x-ray image, and referral letter/medical clearance (if necessary) to info@wihhospital.com in JPEG or PDF format as soon as you receive them.

For patients undergoing surgery under general anesthesia, the following lab tests are required, categorized by age group:

Patients below 40 years old:

  1. Complete blood test or CBC (red blood cell, white blood cell, and platelet count)
  2. Anti-HIV test
  3. Serum Creatinine (Cr)
  4. Prothrombin Time (PT) and Partial Thromboplastin Time (PTT) tests
  5. Fasting blood sugar (FBS)
  6. Digital file of Chest X-ray (PA view) with a report from the radiologist

  5. Fasting blood sugar (FBS)
  6. Digital file of Chest X-ray (PA view) with a report from the radiologist
  7. Lipid Profile
  8. Liver function test
  9. Electrocardiogram with interpretation (Standard 12-lead EKG)
  10. Exercise stress test (EST), including interpretation from a cardiologist

*Remark*

For Fasting blood sugar (FBS), please remember to fast for 8-12 hours before the fasting blood sugar test. Fasting entails refraining from consuming anything except water.

If you have been diagnosed with either Diabetes Mellitus I or Diabetes Mellitus II, you may skip the fasting blood sugar test and opt for the Hemoglobin A1c instead.

For the patients who come for facial bone surgery, we need a Skull x-ray series in front view (AP view) and side view. Please note that the digital skull image must include the top skull and lower chin border.

Kindly note that in case of any abnormal results, the medical team may request additional lab tests or investigations to be conducted either in your home country or at WIH, incurring corresponding costs. For instance, if your fasting blood sugar level is higher than normal, you will be advised to undergo the Hemoglobin A1c test.

medical visa for surgery in Thailand

Plan for your Visa and Flight

To ensure a smooth arrival and stay in Thailand, it is critical to identify whether you need to apply for a visa before visiting. Visa on arrival or visa exemption is available to certain nationalities. On the other hand, other nations must get a Visa from a Thai embassy or consulate before traveling. Please remember that your stay in the country should be at most the days allowed by law. Furthermore, at the time of travel, you and your companion must have all the travel documents required by the Thai government.

We offer online consultations with an associated doctor’s fee. You can schedule an online consultation date through our international CRM team.

 Types of Visa

1. Visa exemption

Some countries are qualified for visa exemption, which permits them to stay in Thailand for up to 30 days. The list of countries whose residents are eligible for Visa exemption (30-day tourist visa) can be found on the Thailand Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

If your nationality is included in the Visa Exemption Program, you can arrange your trip without any formalities at the Thai consulate or Thai Embassy in your country. When you arrive at Bangkok International Airport, you will be given a stamp on your passport indicating that you can remain in Thailand for up to 30 days. If you need to stay longer than 30 days for prolonged healing, you can extend your 30-day visa exemption for only seven days at an immigration office in Thailand for 1,900 Baht.

2. Tourist Visa

The tourist visa generally permits a 60-day stay in Thailand, and some people prefer to get this type of visa to stay in Thailand for longer than one month. If the Visa Exemption Program does not cover your nationality, you must apply for a Tourist Visa at the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General.

You can also apply for a Medical Tourist Visa (MT), which permits you to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days. If you intend to use this type of visa, please get in touch with us at least three months before your operation date to request a Letter of Appointment and a copy of the hospital registration certificate, as you need to attach these documents to your application.

Other documents that you need to prepare for the Visa Application

Passport or travel document having a validity period of at least six months

Completed Visa Application Form

One recent 4 x 6 cm photo

Round-trip air ticket or e-ticket (full payment)

Financial evidence that you can fund your travel and stay in Thailand

Booking confirmation for your accommodation throughout your stay

3. Visa on Arrival

The Visa on Arrival permits a 15-day stay and is available to nationals of several countries not included in the Visa exemption program. However, it is not suggested for patients who come to have complex surgery, such as complete facial feminization or gender affirming surgery, due to insufficient recuperation time.

Those who plan to stay longer or modify their visa type must apply for approval at the Office of Immigration Bureau at Government Center B, Chaengwattana Soi 7, Laksi, Bangkok 10210. Please note that the Immigration officer has sole authority over the extension of stay and the modification of visa type.

Visa Extension Assistance

If you need to stay in Thailand for a more extended period and cannot file for a visa extension on your own, we can do so on your behalf for an additional price of 8,000 THB, which includes the visa fee. The application for visa extension must be completed before your current visa or permit to stay expires.

Book your flight and your stay at WIH Post Surgery Accommodation (WIH-PSA)

It is necessary to arrive 3-4 days before surgery for the preoperative consultation with your surgeon, preoperative investigations, or bowel cleansing (if required).
