EP.38 | Natural Hairline Design for Hair Transplant Success

The goal of hair transplantation is not only to make the hair look fuller again but most importantly to design the hair line so that it matches each patient’s facial structure.

For example with a female hairline the design should be soft and browned with smooth closure of the temple which helps the face look sweeter and more feminine.

In contrast a male hairline is usually designed to be more straight with a slight resation at the temple to preserve the masculine facial frame.

In addition to the artistic aspect of the hairline design the selection of graph types also plays an important role in achieving a natural looking hairline.

At the very front of the hairline I choose single grabs or what we call one hair grab to create a soft graduate transition and a natural appearance.

Grabs that contain two to three hairs which we call two hair or three hair grabs have thicker hairs than one hair grabs.

Therefore they are more suitable for placement behind the frontal hairline to increase overall density.

Regarding the choice of hair transplant technique between FUT and Fue.

The main difference lies in how the graph are harvested from the scalp.

With the FUT technique a strip of scalp is surgically removed from the occipital area and the hair follicles are then disted under a microscope.

The dawn area is close with su resulting in a linear scar.

With the FGE technique as follicles are harvested individually using a punch or extraction device.

The harvest area is wider than the FGT and shaving of the donor area may be required.

When performed by an experience surgeon and team both FGT and FGE produce no difference in terms of graph quality or overall hair transparent result.

In the case of transgender patients who are planning for facial feminization surgery in the forehead area.

Such as brow bone reduction or brow lifting via a coronal incision along the hairline.
